Yasutomo’s Bamboo Bark Baren is a time-tested way to get sharper relief prints. Whether you’re working in linocut, woodblock printmaking, or monoprinting, you need some kind of burnishing tool to transfer the ink from the printing plate to the paper. This is especially true in home studios, where there’s rarely a printing press.
Bamboo bark has been used for hand printmaking for many generations. The material has a strong grain, which helps to get the required pressure on every spot in the print, but it’s also low-friction and won’t catch against paper. For extra protection of your print, put a piece of wax paper between your baren and the back of the sheet while you rub.
4.75″ diameter. Made in Japan.
